She had no experience in IT and now works in IT

Julia moved from a physical worker in a warehouse to IT and is now a Customer Support Specialist at Elastic Email. She simply decided to enter the IT industry, and testing seemed safe to her because no experience was needed. She combined learning on the Software Tester course with studies and work, but the effort paid off.

How much has your professional life changed after the software tester course?

I studied and worked in a logistics center as an ordinary manual worker. Due to the fact that I knew it was only a part-time job for the period of my studies, I took steps to have a basis to get out of it as soon as possible and look for one that I would enjoy.

After the course, I went straight to work. Dozens of CVs sent, creating your professional profile on LinkedIn. And so, step by step, my professional life changed dramatically. From a popular magazine, where I worked physically, I ended up at an IT company. It was a novelty for me, because by changing the environment, changing the way I work and my entire professional profile, I started working in a place where I know that I want to develop further.

Was it difficult to make the decision to change? What did it come from?

The decision to change came quickly. From day to day I thought that I wanted to gain new competences and I applied for the course, not really knowing if I would find myself in this subject, because I was "green" when it comes to testing, and my experience with computer science left much to be desired. Except for Microsoft Paint, because I was doing great here :)

Where did the idea to start testing come from?

IT companies are said to be the future. Over time, I delved into the subject, I began to wonder how to get into the IT market as soon as possible. In my previous job, there was an opportunity to take courses, including in the IT industry. Without thinking for a long time, I chose a software tester course, encouraged by the fact that I do not need to have experience.

What are you doing at present?

I am currently implementing the client to our platform, which focuses on Email Marketing. I work with a team of programmers and solve various types of problems with the platform and deliverability of our clients' advertising campaigns. I also support the product department by reporting any errors detected by me or by clients. I also test some of the changes that occur in the system.

Is this remote work?

I work remotely. However, I am also able to work stationary from the office. There is complete freedom in this matter, which I am really happy about. What's more, I have the opportunity to use Workation, i.e. work from anywhere in the world.

How did you organize your responsibilities during the course?

I studied every day during the course. Classes on the course took place in the afternoon, so it did not interfere with my schedule. At that time, I only worked on weekends, so it was no problem for me to combine my studies and work with the course. It was intense, but it paid off.

What is it like to be part of IT?

Only after two or three months and after the support that my team showed me, I felt that I was part of this team and part of the IT industry. A very pleasant feeling when I know that this is an industry that offers a lot of development. The company I currently work for is constantly improving its platform, thanks to which I know that I will not stand still, and my knowledge and skills will be at an ever-higher level.

How long have you been looking for a job? Did you use support in recruitment after the bootcamp?

As for the job search process, it lasted about 3 months and I must admit that I found it thanks to the support I received after the bootcamp from Klaudia (recruiter and mentor in the re-industry processes at Future Collars - ed.). The tips I received during the conversation, quickly prompted me to act, I started building my professional profile and so, while expanding my network of contacts, I came across my current company quite by accident.

What are your future career plans?

My plans are not defined yet. I am sure that I would like to stay in the IT industry and continue to explore and expand my possibilities. I'm still looking for my way, and due to the wide range of IT offers, I can't make a clear decision. At the moment I am thinking about testing not only in manual form, but also in automatic form.

Thank you for the interview and we keep our fingers crossed for further development!
