WATCH: Artur Kurasiński about the role of women in IT during Women in IT Day
Future Collars: How do you assess the pace of technological development today?
Artur Kurasiński: It's like Formula 1 – we're racing forward. We live in times where technology incredibly influences our lives but can be destructive at the same time. We need to be aware of both aspects.
FC: You mentioned the destructive impact of technology. Can you elaborate?
AK: Many corporations focus on profits, losing the human aspect. We need to fight against this phenomenon. Fake news, for example, can be a weapon of mass destruction. We need to regulate technology to protect values such as democracy and peace.
FC: What are the challenges for women in the IT industry?
AK: The problem is the stereotype that IT is a male-dominated domain. We need to change that. Women have a different perspective essential for innovation. IT is no longer just coding, but a broad range of possibilities where women can play a crucial role.
FC: How can we encourage more women to enter the IT industry?
AK: First and foremost, we need to stop treating IT as something unattainable. Technology is our life. Women can be excellent project managers, experts in QA teams, and much more. IT is about diversity and innovation, and women are an integral part of it.
FC: How do you evaluate today's Women in IT Day event?
AK: It's important that we organize such events. They send a signal to women: you are not alone; technology is also your place. We show that technology is not just about coding but also about the human aspect, psychology, sociology. It's a space for everyone.
Vision of the future of IT and the role of women
During Women in IT Day, Artur Kurasiński, creator, entrepreneur, and investor, focused on megatrends in IT in his inspiring speech, emphasizing the significant role of women in shaping the industry's future:
Software has immense power that literally 'eats' the world. What was once a tool for making money is now a global challenge. Software and algorithms are not just tools anymore but an integral part of our lives. Every day we use them, checking the weather or planning our days.
It's worth noting that many professions we know today did not exist in the 1940s. The development of software and technology, especially artificial intelligence, will have a huge impact on the job market, including the roles and perception of women in the industry. If AI suggests career paths to young people based on outdated stereotypes, we risk perpetuating a patriarchal employment model and excluding women from traditionally 'male' professions. Let's remember that women had a significant role in the success of the Apollo space program.
Therefore, we must actively shape the future of technology to avoid repeating past mistakes. Our world is not as straightforward as artificial intelligence might suggest. We need truth and facts in technology. Let's not passively wait for the next revolution and its challenges. It's time to actively create a future that is fair and inclusive for everyone, regardless of gender.
